Job summary

Labcorp is seeking a Lab Assistant to join our team at Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin, TX. This Casual/Per Diem position means hours will be as needed and vary with staffing and patient volume.

Responsibilities include receiving and sorting clinical lab specimens, preparing samples for testing, data entry, and maintaining equipment. A high school diploma is required; lab experience is preferred, with flexibility to work overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior medical/lab experience preferred.
• Comfort with handling biological specimens.
• Ability to identify specimens accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and multitasking ability.

Responsibilities

• Receive and sort clinical lab specimens.
• Prepare specimens for testing and analysis, including micro set ups.
• May perform waived testing and proficiency testing as required for competency.
• Scan and/or data entry of specimen and patient information.
• Ensure lab equipment is working and perform minor instrumentation maintenance.
• Troubleshoot specimen-related issues.
• Replenish test bench supplies and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
• Complete record logs and other administrative duties as requested.
• Follow all SOPs to ensure safety and quality standards.

Work Schedule

This is a Casual/Per Diem position; hours will be "as needed" and the start and end times will vary.

Job Responsibilities

• Receive and sort clinical lab specimens
• Prepare specimens for testing and analysis including micro set ups
• May perform waived testing and required blind samples and proficiency testing as required for competency
• Scan and/or data entry of specimen and patient information
• Ensure all lab equipment is working properly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance
• Troubleshoot any specimen related issues
• Replenish test bench supplies as needed
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment
• Complete record logs and other administrative duties as requested
• Follow all Standard Operating Procedures to ensure safety and quality standards

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous medical/lab experience is preferred
• Prior production experience is a plus
• Comfortability with handling biological specimens
• Ability to accurately identify specimens
• Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills
• High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask
• Ability to work in a fast paced production environment and meet established turn-around times
• Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
• Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
• Must pass a standardized color blindness test
• Flexibility to work overtime as needed
