Job summary

Under general supervision, the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist program collects and maintains laboratory animals and facilities in a research and teaching environment, in a full-time capacity. The role includes safe handling, cage setup, inventory, and communication with clinical and supervisory staff.

Occasional weekend/holiday work is required, with a starting pay range of $19.80–$29.70 per hour, reflecting duties as a Laboratory Animal Technician Trainee.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent with previous lab animal experience.
• Valid applicable state driver's license.
• AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level preferred.

Responsibilities

• Capable of performing duties as specified for Laboratory Animal Technician Trainee (LATT) position.
• Safely handles and restrains all animal species while maintaining proper identification and location.
• Assembles caging equipment to provide comfortable, safe housing for all species.
• Completes and documents supply and diet inventory on a weekly basis.
• Communicates pertinent information to clinical, supervisory, and management personnel in writing and verbally.
• Provides species specific environmental enrichment items according to schedules and assists Environmental Enrichment coordinator with special enrichment needs.
