Job summary

The Laboratory Animal Research Assistant at the University of Maryland School of Medicine will contribute to animal research and clinical care in a multidisciplinary pediatrics setting. Responsibilities include routine lab maintenance, health observations, sample collection, and assisting in advanced studies across multiple species.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and prior clinical research experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field related to the clinical setting.
  • Prior clinical research experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in a biological/life sciences laboratory preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine laboratory maintenance and daily observations of animal health, including collection of cultures and samples for diagnostic testing and reporting to a veterinarian.
  • Triage, administer specific or prescribed animal treatments, and perform diagnostic molecular or biochemical assays and related procedures.
  • Assist with advanced animal research activities such as blood/tissue collection, surgeries, post-operative care, and device implantation.
  • Handle biochemical, molecular, cellular, and genetic experiments; manage data and records of laboratory experimentation.
  • May assist with literature research, manuscript preparation, and literature-related tasks; train and guide students or staff.
