Job summary

Ray Therapeutics seeks a Lab & Facilities Operations Manager in Berkeley to oversee Laboratory Operations, Facilities, Supplies, and Shipping & Receiving. The role is on-site five days a week, reporting to the Chief Development Officer, with hands-on responsibilities in a fast-paced biotech environment.

The ideal candidate has 5–7 years in lab operations or biotech facilities, strong organizational skills, and ability to coordinate with vendors and leadership.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in life sciences, laboratory operations, facilities management, engineering, or related field; equivalent hands-on experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in laboratory operations, facilities coordination, biotech/pharmaceutical operations, or related technical environment.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with laboratory staff, clinical operations, vendors, and leadership to resolve issues, improve workflows, and maintain operational continuity

Responsibilities

  • Maintain operational readiness of shared laboratory equipment, including BSCs, tissue-culture incubators, and other common-use equipment; implement and enforce equipment user logs, scheduling practices, and procedures to ensure fair access, appropriate use, and clear accountability
  • Manage lab safety programs, including coordination of safety inspections, trainings, and training records.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance, calibration, cleaning, certification, and vendor service activities with equipment manufacturers and service providers.
  • Develop and maintain cleaning procedures for shared equipment and storage areas, including refrigerators, freezers, incubators, and other common spaces.
  • Lead quarterly laboratory cleanouts in partnership with lab staff, including removal of expired reagents and organization of shared storage areas.
  • Manage common laboratory supplies and services, including gases, liquid nitrogen, dry ice, disposables, and shared inventory.
  • Maintain vendor accounts, coordinate routine deliveries, and ensure critical supplies remain available to support laboratory and clinical activities.
  • Support improvements to laboratory layout, workflow, and storage capacity to promote efficient use of space.
  • Support clinical operations with inventory tracking clinical supply ordering and assist with the preparation of pharmacy binders, shipment documentation, packing lists, and related operational records.

Ray Therapeutics mission is to restore vision to people with retinal degenerations. RayTx is using a novel bioengineered optogenetic protein optimized for human vision delivered by AAV to restore visual function in a mutation agnostic approach and without the need for light enhancing eyewear. The company is developing its lead candidate RTx-015 in retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative retinal disease with significant unmet medical need as well as a pipeline to treat both rare and large market indications.

We are seeking an exceptional Lab & Facilities Operations Manager to manage our Laboratory Operations, Facilities, Supplies & Vendor Coordination along with Shipping & Receiving. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a hands-on role that requires both independent execution and proactive communication in a fast-paced biotech environment.

As a Lab & Facilities Operations Manager, you will report to our Chief Development Officer. This is an onsite role and requires working on-site 5 days per week.

Capitalize on your experience supporting regulated or quality-conscious laboratory environments, with an understanding of safe lab practices, documentation expectations, equipment readiness, and vendor service coordination as you manage:
Lab Operations

  • Maintain vendor accounts, coordinate routine deliveries, and ensure critical supplies remain available to support laboratory and clinical activities.

  • Manage shipping and receiving processes for laboratory and clinical supplies while improving current shipping and receiving workflows
  • Track incoming and outgoing shipments, packing lists, and related documentation to support traceability and operational continuity.
  • Coordinate with FedEx, World Courier, and other logistics partners for shipment execution and tracking.

Compensation Range and Benefits:
  • For this role, the anticipated base salary range is $125-$150k, based on the candidate's professional experience level. The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to skills, education, and experience. Ray Therapeutics also offers annual performance-based bonus, annual equity awards and a comprehensive benefits package.
