Job summary

SGS Carson laboratory is seeking a Laboratory Analyst to join the team. You will prepare and analyze samples with accuracy and precision following SGS SOPs, using instruments specific to the department.

The role requires basic analytical science knowledge, the ability to work independently or in a team, and adherence to safety practices. You will perform instrument maintenance, document observations, and support client inquiries while meeting hold and turnaround times.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Geology or a similar scientific discipline is required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or a similar field is preferred.
  • Basic mathematical and reasoning skills are required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) is required.
  • Experience with GCMS and Organics methods is preferred.
  • Experience with LIMS is preferred.
  • Ability to lift/carry/push and/or pull up to 25 lbs is required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze samples according to SGS’ SOPs using department instruments and methods.
  • Perform routine operation, maintenance, calibration of laboratory instruments/equipment.
  • Assist with investigation and responses to client inquiries and CARs.
  • Input and maintain technical information to support laboratory operations.
  • Maintain Laboratory Notebook where applicable.
  • Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Conduct asbestos analyses and Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) analysis of bulk building materials.
  • Perform Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) analysis of air samples.
  • Review sample information for completeness and document observations accurately.

Associate Degree in Geology or similar scientific discipline

Job Description

Our Carson, CAlaboratory is looking for a Laboratory Analyst to join their team! The Laboratory Analyst prepares and analyzes samples with accuracy and precision in accordance to SGS' analytical SOPs. The Laboratory Analyst works independently and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensure hold times and turnaround times are met. The Laboratory Analyst understands and applies basic analytical science principles. The Laboratory Analyst always follows safe laboratory practices and maintains a safe working environment.

Job functions
  • After appropriate training independently prepares and analyzes samples according to SGS’ analytical SOPs using instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies
  • Performs routine operation, maintenance, calibration of laboratory instruments/equipment
  • Assists with investigation, and preparation of responses to client inquiries and CARs.
  • Inputs and maintains technical information as needed to support the laboratory functions/operations.
  • Maintains Laboratory Notebook where applicable.
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Perform asbestos analyses according to established laboratory procedures and regulatory methods.
  • Conduct Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) analysis of bulk building materials.
  • Perform Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) analysis of air samples.
  • Prepare samples using approved preparation techniques including gravimetric reductions and other applicable procedures.
  • Review sample information for completeness and document observations accurately.
Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in a Geology or similar scientific discipline and 0-2 years of experience in Analytical Laboratories OR 3 years of relevant experience (i.e. Sample Prep) (Required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Geology or similar scientific discipline and 1-2 years of years’ relevant experience in Geology Laboratories (Preferred)
  • Basic mathematical and reasoning skills (Required)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) (Required)
  • Experience with GCMS and Organics methods (Preferred)
  • Experience with LIMS (Preferred)
  • Ability to lift/carry/push and/or pull upwards of 25 lbs on a frequent basis (Required)
