Job summary

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is seeking an entry-level laboratory support role to assist in day-to-day lab operations. Under supervision, you will help maintain equipment, prepare materials, and support investigators with essential tasks.

Responsibilities include sterilizing glassware, operating basic lab equipment, preparing buffers, organizing supplies, and keeping inventory records. No prior experience required, training provided.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.
  • Willingness to learn and follow safety and procedural guidelines.

Summary

Under direct supervision, provide basic support to laboratory functions including maintenance, operation and inventory of equipment and supplies. Support research investigators as needed.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide clean and sterilized glassware for use in research lab.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of basic lab equipment such as autoclaving.
  • Make and supply media buffers and water to research areas as needed.
  • Assist in organizing and setup lab supplies and equipment for individual research investigators.
  • Assist with inventory and record of supplies.
  • Participate in meetings with principle investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.

Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.

Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education an on equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: Less than high school

Minimum Required Experience: No experience required

Physical Requirements

Work requires infrequent physical effort such as walking or retrieving materials.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
