Job description

The Arizona Republic / azcentral.com is seeking a digital-first bilingual reporter to join the Spanish-language reporting and producing team at La Voz. La Voz is the Spanish-language sister publication and bilingual desk of The Arizona Republic/azcentral.com, bringing local news coverage of Phoenix and Arizona to Latinos and Spanish speakers.

Essential job duties include:
  • This reporter will closely monitor and build connections in the Spanish-speaking community of metro Phoenix to craft service journalism and answer reader questions.
  • This reporter will produce a combination of breaking news, daily enterprise, feature and multi-sourced stories in Spanish and English in a fast-paced, competitive, 24/7 news cycle.
Typical job duties:
  • Report community-centered stories ranging from quick-turn breaking news to deeper features.
  • Use search insights to connect with readers on trending topics.
  • Break essential Spanish-language news.
  • Demonstrate strong news judgment informed by real-world experience in Spanish news media.
  • Bring fresh ideas about how to best deliver audience-centered coverage of Spanish speaking communities.
  • Provide cogent analysis of trends and issues.
  • Report quickly, clearly and accurately.
  • Engage with readers through various platforms, including social, video and newsletters.
Knowledge and skills:
  • Spanish fluency required.
  • Strong command of AP grammar and style.
  • Strong copy-editing skills and the ability to produce breaking news and long-form content that is clean, accurate and publication ready.
  • Use metrics to inform story choices and shape beat strategies.
  • Experiment with new ways of informing and engaging audiences across platforms and alternate story forms.
  • Comfort and familiarity using social media such as X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and other emerging platforms to enhance reporting and share journalism.
  • Established understanding of media ethics and sourcing.
Required work experience, training and education:
