Job description

L&I has been very diligent in working to remain competitive with other wages and the increased cost of living. An additional pay increase, per theCoalition CBA (MOU N), of 21% will be added to the base pay for this position ($10,597 mthly./ $127,164 yrly.). This temporary pay increase shall be effective until June 30, 2025.

As a Virtual Electrical Construction Inspector (VEI) Lead, you will perform and coordinate electrical inspection and compliance activities currently using Skype that promote uniform, quality electrical installations. This position will help improve commerce for Washington businesses and electrical contractors by providing timely inspections as requested by the contracting community, assisting them in complying with applicable laws using fairness, education and communication.

** The duty station for this position can be at any of our offices across Washington State.

Some of what you will do:

  • Monitor the schedule of daily inspection work on the contractor online request app.
  • Conduct virtual inspections of electrical installations across the state to ensure compliance with RCW 19.28, WAC 296-46B, the National Electrical Code (NEC), and construction-industry standards for electrical installations.
  • Verify and ensure electrical permitting, contractor licensing, and electrician certification in accordance with these same laws and codes while working in cooperation with the local inspection offices.
  • As part of this original innovative unit, you will help establish the standard work and future processes used to keep the electrical program relevant to the industry.
  • Crossover support for the electrical plan review unit is also included based on demand.
  • Perform outreach for electrical contractors and explain the benefits of VEI.

Required:


    Must possess and maintain a valid and active WA State General Journeyman (EL01) electrical certificate or Master General Journeyman (ME01) electrical certificate.
    4 years' experience as a certified journeyman electrician (EL01) in the electrical construction trade installing and maintaining electrical systems or other experience as outlined in RCW 19.28.321.
    Code Knowledge – Ability to understand how and when the National Electrical Code, RCW 19.28, and WAC 296-46B apply to all commercial, industrial, and residential electrical installations and the calculation of loads in those installations.
    Demonstration of L&I Core competencies, Core Competencies and demonstration of position-specific skills, abilities and competencies.
    Must also possess a valid driver’s license. Travel is required daily.

** Equivalent experience pertaining to the National Electric Code to be determined by the Department of Labor and Industries.



Desired:

  • Possession of a Washington State General Administrator's Certificate (AD01) or Master General Electrician Certificate (ME01) is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in a cross-section of electrical work in the electrical industry.

For this position, telework is based upon business needs and supervisor approval (3 days per week at the office). The assigned duty station for this position can be any of our 16 field locations.
