Position Overview

As an anchor, you will be an effective team member and make a full contribution to the success of the station. Contribute daily to make KTAR the leading provider of timely, relevant news and information. As a reporter, you will be producing stories from the newsroom and at times from the field. This on‑call role will require you to be available for varied schedules. It’s the perfect “foot in the door” opportunity for an up‑and‑comer or a great job for someone who just wants to keep their news chops fresh. Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion. This position is an onsite role that requires the employee to regularly work at our Phoenix site.

What You Will Do
  • Perform live in‑studio reports within newscasts up to four times an hour, with potentially more added in the event of breaking news.
  • Present compelling, informative, personable and impactful newscasts with an emphasis on local and breaking news.
  • Report news in a way that stays fresh, new and exciting, while maintaining the integrity of news standards.
  • When filling in as reporter, perform live reports from the newsroom and at times on location, up to 2x an hour or more as dictated by breaking news.
  • During your shift, manage assignment desk operations, monitor the flow of information, write scripts, reach out for interviews, conduct interviews and update stories as needed.
  • Fill in at different times of day and/or weekends during holidays, vacations, or breaking news.
  • Maintain community contacts and develop specialties to create enterprise news stories.
  • Be a self‑starter and quick thinker while reporting in‑house and on location.
  • Place an extreme emphasis on conversational writing and creative presentation during live and taped reports.
  • Consistently contribute original story and long‑form report ideas.
  • Seek video interviews and edit clips for social media from recorded interviews.
  • Take on special assignments and in‑depth pieces, long‑form reporting.
Skills and Experience We Are Looking For
  • Bachelor’s Degree in broadcast journalism or an associate’s degree.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as an active reporter, anchor or editor in a professional news environment.
  • Strong broadcast writing and computer skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet up‑to‑the‑minute/hourly/daily/weekly deadlines and be accurate and precise in writing news or traffic reports.
  • Self‑starter who can perform everyday tasks with minimal direction.
  • Ability to understand and utilize news feeds and social media.
  • Sound news judgment and ability to simplify press releases as well as government and law‑enforcement information.
  • Hold true to the utmost ethics in journalism and practice integrity in all areas, including professional and personal standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including conversational yet professional news delivery.
  • Proficiency in editing audio using software like Audition or NewsBoss Audio Editor. NewsBoss platform experience preferred.
  • Basic video editing skills preferred.
  • Strong desire to work at Arizona’s largest and most respected award‑winning news radio station.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Physical Demands

Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively. Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer keys and general office equipment. Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time. Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

Compensation

$20.00 per hour. Hourly rate to be determined by multiple factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data.
