Job summary

Desian Education is recruiting a compassionate Key Stage 1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEND across Years 1 and 2 in Southport. You will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and support staff to tailor learning experiences and foster an inclusive classroom environment.

You will provide 1:1 and small group support, assist with early literacy and numeracy, and help children develop confidence, independence and social skills while upholding safeguarding standards.

Qualifications

• Have previous experience working with children with SEND within a school setting.
• Hold a Teaching Assistant qualification.
• Have a good understanding of a range of special educational needs.
• Be patient, empathetic, and passionate about supporting children to succeed.
• Be confident managing behaviour and promoting positive outcomes.
• Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Responsibilities

• Providing 1:1 and small group support for KS1 pupils with SEND.
• Supporting pupils with their early literacy and numeracy development.
• Assisting with classroom activities and delivering targeted interventions.
• Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and social skills.
• Supporting children with additional needs, which may include Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and SEMH.
• Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team.
• Creating a positive, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
• Encouraging engagement, participation and progress throughout the school day.
