Job Description

Work at Home Bilingual Kapelle - English Phone Interpreter

Location: Work at Home position in United States

Pay: $1.25 - $1.40 per minute. Actual rates depend on time of day or night and interpretation level as defined by LanguageLine Solutions.

Position Overview:

The Kapelle Telephone Interpreter handles on-demand calls, rendering the meaning of conversations between Kapelle and English speakers. The interpreter breaks communication barriers across industries such as Healthcare, Government, Insurance, Financial, Utilities, Travel & Hospitality, General Business, Law Enforcement, Court, and 911.

The interpreter processes information quickly, concisely, and recognizes cultural differences. Professionalism, courtesy, appropriate terminology, and understanding of industry procedures are essential. Sessions may involve simple or complex, technical or non-technical subjects.

This role involves verbal interpretation only; written translation is not required, though translators and linguists are encouraged to apply. This is a remote position. The Interpreter works from home, in a quiet and secure environment.

Essential Job Functions

• Respond promptly and conduct interpretation professionally.
• Render correct concepts and meanings, avoiding omissions or additions.
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and polite expressions.
• Maintain professionalism and composure, especially in emergency or emotional situations.
• Be punctual and available during work hours.
• Follow client instructions and protocols, avoiding unnecessary interaction with LEP without permission.
• Understand industry-specific terminology.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
• Remain on calls for extended periods if required, maintaining high standards of service.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Kapelle and English, with cultural competence.
• Ability to assess regional and accent differences.
• Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
• Ability to stay neutral and objective, handling sensitive topics professionally.
• Experience in language-related fields is preferred.
• Ability to adapt to technology enhancements.
• Must be at least 18 and authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and write in requested languages is highly preferred.

Additional Requirements

Post-offer background check and/or drug screen may be required based on location.

Technical Requirements:

• Dedicated device for work (Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, tablets, smartphones).
• Internet speeds of at least 5 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload.
• Quiet workspace free from distractions.

Physical Requirements:

• Operate keyboard/mouse, remain stationary, and handle manual tasks.
• Lift up to 26 lbs if necessary.
