Position Summary:
The Knuckleboom Crane Operator plays a critical role in Bluestone Tree’s operations by safely
operating a knuckleboom crane to assist with tree removal and storm cleanup projects. This
position requires precision, attention to safety protocols, and experience handling heavy
equipment in a variety of worksite conditions. As a crane operator, you will work closely with
aerial specialists, ground crews, and project managers to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality
results on every job.
Key Responsibilities:
● Safely operate a knuckleboom crane to lift, move, and load logs, tree sections, and other
large materials during tree removals and storm cleanup operations.
● Work closely with climbers and ground crew to ensure smooth communication and
coordinated lifting operations.
● Perform pre-operation and post-operation inspections of the crane and ensure it is in
safe working condition.
● Set up and stabilize crane according to manufacturer guidelines and job site
requirements.
● Follow all Bluestone Tree safety procedures and industry standards to minimize risk
during crane operations.
● Assist with ground operations as needed, including rigging, hauling debris, and
maintaining a clean and safe job site.
● Travel for storm response work in other states when necessary, maintaining a
professional attitude and strong work ethic on the road.
● Communicate effectively with crew leaders and customers to represent Bluestone Tree
in a professional manner.
● Maintain accurate records of crane operation activities and assist in equipment
maintenance as needed.
Qualifications:
● Experience operating a knuckleboom crane or similar heavy equipment (2+ years
preferred).
● Valid CDL (Class B minimum, Class A preferred) with a clean driving record.
● NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) or similar
certification preferred.
● Strong understanding of crane load charts, safety guidelines, and rigging techniques.
● Ability to safely operate and maneuver a crane in tight, residential, and urban job sites.
● Familiarity with tree removal practices is a plus.
● Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
● Willingness to travel for storm work and out-of-town jobs when required.
● Physical ability to assist with ground operations when not operating equipment.
● Dependability and punctuality are essential.
Preferred Skills (but not required):
● Experience in the tree care or forestry industry.
● CPR/First Aid certification.
● Mechanical skills to assist with minor equipment maintenance.
