Summary:

Directs and coordinates activities involved in operating merchandising services within COSTCO buildings in a defined district by personally performing the duties listed below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

STORE AND PRODUCT MANAGEMENT
  • Inspects premises of assigned area stores to ensure that adequate merchandising exists
  • Reviews operational records and reports of store managers to project sales and to determine store profitability.
  • Coordinates and delivers sales training, merchandising standards and holiday planning activities of store managers.
  • Negotiates sales space with store managers, especially during floral holidays
  • Coordinates sales promotion activities and prepares, or directs workers preparing, merchandise displays.
  • Orders merchandise or prepares requisitions to replenish merchandise on hand.
  • Orders store supplies and equipment.
  • Inspects merchandise to ensure it is correctly priced and displayed.
  • Recommends additions to or deletions of merchandise to be sold in department.
  • Prepares sales and inventory reports.
  • Listens to customer complaints, examines returned merchandise, and resolves problems to restore and promote good public relations.
  • Sells merchandise and works store shift when coverage requires.
FIELD MERCHANDISER PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT
  • Directs compliance of merchandising staff workers with established employment, merchandising, sales, and safety procedures and standards
  • Responsibilities include interviewing and training merchandisers, reviewing work to ensure is meeting contracted service commitment, addressing all performance issues and partnering with HR Manager with any issues or concerns regarding employee performance to ensure all issues are appropriately
  • Plans and prepares work schedules and ensures employee adherence to schedule and all timekeeping practices. Tracks and administers time keeping standards and processes for all employees within defined district.
  • Supervises merchandisers engaged in sales work, taking of inventories, keeping operating records, or preparing daily record of or performs work of subordinates, as needed.
  • Coordinates with HR manager all building schedules to ensure complete coverage during regular and holiday periods including unplanned absences. Engages in area recruiting, as required.
TERRITORY SALES MANAGEMENT
  • Responsible for weekly store status reports
  • Fills in as merchandising and sales support for unstaffed buildings within defined district
  • Responsible for ensuring safety and compliance practices and processes are adhered to at all buildings
Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises over 2 employees per assigned building in defined district. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Travel
  • Non holiday: Monday at home office day and four (4) days out working in the buildings in defined district. Visit a minimum of two (2) stores daily during field days. Peak sales periods outside of holidays may require full week in the field.
  • Floral Holiday: Up to 100% of the time in the buildings in the defined district
  • Floral Holidays: Valentine’s Day, Chinese New Year, Easter, Mother’s Day, Mexican Mother’s Day, Graduation, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and others as identified in defined district.

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years related retail sales management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
  • Retail sales management: 2 years (Preferred)
