SUMMARY:

Directs and coordinates Costco Merchandising Services activities involved in operating merchandising services group within COSTCO buildings in an assigned area by performing the following duties personally and through the management of District Field Managers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Organize, document, plan and facilitate daily activities related to sales, shrink and personnel management programs for District Managers
  • Drive and increase sales throughout the West Coast states
  • Facilitate and review daily, weekly and monthly sales projections
  • Responsible for the weekly product selection
  • Plan holidays sales projections, building space & staffing requirements
  • Responsible for shrink by working with each District Field Manager
  • Responsible for the daily personnel and sales management of District Field Managers within assigned region
  • Responsible for the development and retention of District Field Managers
  • Travel to all districts with each District Field Manager monthly
  • Field travel 80% of the time - average 4 field days per week
  • Coordinate shipping schedule with facility Transportation and Allocations teams
Organize, document, plan and facilitate development programs for District Managers
  • Evaluates District Managers performances to develop skills assessment plans and individual training plans.
  • Selects, develops, documents and conducts testing and evaluation procedures to use at completion of training to ensure effectiveness of program. Revises design of training curriculum and methods to improve effectiveness.
  • Develops and documents new training courses associated with identified individual development area. Formulates teaching outline and determines instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meeting and workshops
  • Selects and/or develops teaching material such as training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials and reference works
  • Conducts training sessions covering District Manager orientation, on-the-job training, customer service, sales techniques, safety practices, refresher training, upgrading, and retraining displaced workers. Reports on progress of District Manager trainees under guidance during training period
  • Working with Management to develop annual training plans
  • Provide field coaching and support - motivate and generate excitement around merchandising and selling techniques
  • Compiles data and analyzes past and current year training requirements to prepare budgets and justify funds requested
  • Covers for District Managers as required
Organize, document, plan and facilitate development programs for Retail Merchandisers
  • Conducts needs analysis studies to determine training needs within the merchandising sales organization.
  • Formulates and documents training policies, programs and schedules based on knowledge of identified training needs, sales and merchandising processes, business systems or changes in products, procedures or services
  • Presents established and effective sales and merchandising training methods, techniques, and ideas
  • Selects, develops and conducts testing and evaluation procedures to use at completion of training to ensure effectiveness of program. Revises design of training curriculum and methods to improve effectiveness.
  • Working with Management to develop annual training plans.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages up to 12 subordinate District Field Managers. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree and 7-10 years related retail sales management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bilingual Spanish a plus.
Travel

Up to 100% of the time (Weekend work required)

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites software.
