Job Overview
Under the direction of the Culinary Supervisor/Chef Supervisor, the Kitchen Utility Worker is responsible for washing all dishes, pots, pans and flatware, sweeping and mopping floors, maintaining cleanliness of all equipment, and ensuring that all deliveries are stored properly following first-in, first-out procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine sanitation tasks in the main kitchen and cafeteria areas, including sweeping and mopping all floors.
- Work in the dishroom, put all necessary service ware through the dishwasher, wash pots and pans.
- Manage deliveries, stocking and inventory of kitchen food and supplies.
- Follow company and client safety, security and loss prevention policies and procedures to ensure a clean, safe and secure environment.
- Follow proper food handling procedures and chemical safety requirements.
- Comply with orders, return orders to supervisor for review and filing.
- Attend and participate in all required meetings and trainings.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with state and local regulations.
- Perform other job‑related duties assigned by the Culinary Supervisor/Chef Supervisor.
- Communicate regularly with the supervisor and keep them up to date with culinary issues.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma preferred.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Must have working knowledge of chemical safety practices.
- Available to work overtime, holidays and weekends as assigned.
- Must understand and apply first‑in, first‑out (FIFO) stocking practices.
- Must be able to walk, stoop, stand, reach and lift up to 50 pounds most of the working day.
Experience & Skills
- Capable of multi‑tasking and correctly handling culinary problems.
- Demonstrates knowledge of maintenance issues relating to the Culinary Department.
- Demonstrates the ability to stand, bend, stoop, climb and lift.
- Skilled in spackling and painting; knowledgeable about paint types and application.
- Able to use hammers, screwdrivers and other office tools and equipment.
- Establishes and maintains a positive and cooperative working relationship with all employees.
- Respects diverse cultures, ethnic and religious differences.
Performance Expectations
Demonstrates the technical competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
Work Environment
Position requires repetitive motion, audible noise, pushing, reaching, reading, speaking, standing and walking for the majority of the time. Work is performed with computer terminals, fax machines, copiers and telephones. Essential functions are detailed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
Reporting Relationship
This position reports to department leadership and may supervise incumbents as assigned.
