Job summary

South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA is seeking a Kitchen Supervisor to oversee kitchen operations during assigned shifts, ensuring food quality, timely service, and safety compliance. You will direct staff, assign workstations, and coordinate breaks while serving as the on-shift contact for kitchen operations.

The ideal candidate has prior supervisory experience in a high-volume kitchen, strong leadership and communication skills, and knowledge of food safety standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in a commercial kitchen, restaurant, concessions, catering, or high-volume food-service environment.
• Previous supervisory or team-lead experience preferred.
• CFPM certification or ability to obtain within the required timeframe; CA Food Handler Card required until certified.

Responsibilities

• Direct kitchen and food-preparation staff during assigned shifts.
• Conduct pre-shift briefings and assign workstations based on production and service needs.
• Monitor attendance, performance, and workplace conduct; provide real-time coaching.
• Plan and coordinate legally compliant meal and rest breaks; maintain kitchen coverage.
• Document and report breaks; ensure breaks are taken timely and properly.
• Maintain a respectful, professional work environment and uphold food-safety standards.
• Oversee food preparation, portioning, presentation, and service; ensure recipes and timelines are followed.
