Job summary

The Grand Event Center in Columbus, OH is seeking a dependable dishwasher and back-of-house helper to support banquet and daily operations. You will wash and sanitize dishware, assist with kitchen and event setup, maintain cleanliness, and help crew during busy events.

Qualifications

  • Previous stewarding, dishwashing, restaurant, hotel, banquet, catering, or kitchen experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Able to work effectively and safely in a fast-paced event and kitchen environment.
  • Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, sanitation, and detail.
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Dependable, punctual, and willing to assist in different areas as operational needs require.
  • Able to obtain any required food-handler or safety certification.

Responsibilities

  • Wash, rinse, sanitize, and properly store dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
  • Operate dishwashing equipment safely and according to established procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of clean dishes, cookware, utensils, and banquet service equipment throughout events and daily operations.
  • Maintain proper separation of clean and dirty equipment and keep dish areas organized.
  • Return clean equipment and serviceware to designated storage areas promptly.
  • Clean and sanitize floors, walls, work surfaces, sinks, drains, equipment, storage areas, loading areas, and other assigned back-of-house spaces.
  • Remove trash, recycling, cardboard, and food waste throughout the shift and maintain clean waste-storage areas.
  • Clean spills promptly and use wet-floor signs or other safety measures when needed.
  • Assist with scheduled deep-cleaning and preventative cleaning projects.
  • Maintain cleaning supplies and notify management when products or supplies need to be replenished.
  • Support banquet, catering, culinary, and special-event operations with equipment, dishware, and cleaning needs.
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, and properly storing food, beverage, and operating supplies as directed.
  • Assist culinary team members with basic kitchen support and cleaning assignments as needed.
  • Help with event setup, breakdown, and back-of-house organization as assigned.
  • Communicate clearly and work collaboratively with culinary, banquet, and management team members.
  • Follow all company food safety, sanitation, handwashing, personal hygiene, and workplace safety standards.
  • Follow established procedures for washing, rinsing, and sanitizing equipment and food-contact surfaces.
  • Properly use, label, store, and handle cleaning chemicals and maintain appropriate chemical concentrations.
  • Complete required cleaning, sanitation, and safety logs or checklists when assigned.
  • Immediately report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, maintenance issues, or sanitation concerns to management.
  • Help maintain kitchen and back-of-house areas in an inspection-ready condition.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements.

  • Work around hot equipment, steam, water, cleaning chemicals, and wet or slippery surfaces.
