Yardbird DC is seeking a dedicated Steward to be the first line of support for our kitchen team and guests. The role emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and reliable assistance across back- and front-of-house operations.

The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, follow safety procedures, and help maintain the highest standards of sanitation throughout the kitchen and dining areas.

Qualifications

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and move objects as required.
• Ability to work in a high-stress environment with heat and cleaning chemicals.
• Must stand for extended periods and perform demanding physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of kitchen and heart of house areas.
• Wash and organize dishes, pottery, and china.
• Keep kitchen areas (cold rooms, freezer, dry stores, canteen) clean and organized.
• Handle crockery, china, and cutlery to reduce breakages and losses.
• Ensure equipment is in good working order and report issues to the Chef on duty.
• Keep back areas clean, tidy, and organized.
• Complete cleaning projects for kitchen equipment as needed.
• Remove trash and sanitize trash cans; transport to dumpster.
• Assist front and back of house in spot cleaning floors, walls, and furnishings.
• Store food, equipment, supply, small wares, and stock items securely.
• Maintain high sanitation across work areas including surfaces, refrigeration, floors, walls, and shelving.
• Adhere to safety guidelines; report unsafe conditions or injuries promptly.
• Complete station closing duties and assist with kitchen closing tasks.
