Mamahuhu in Mill Valley, CA is seeking a hands-on Kitchen Manager to lead back-of-house operations. You will work daily in the kitchen, build a strong team, ensure quality, and drive high standards across meals and service.
You’ll implement systems, coach staff, and take ownership of continuous improvement. The role emphasizes leadership, training, and operations over culinary creativity, with a focus on delivering consistent quality, managing costs, and supporting a culture of teamwork.
Mamahuhu is built around the idea that food brings people, communities, and cultures together. Chinese-American food is a perfect example — a cuisine that began in China, evolved in America, and continues to bring people together in joyful, shared moments. We’re here to celebrate that tradition by creating thoughtful new expressions of classic dishes that are fun, nourishing, and absolutely delicious.
Mamahuhu’s founding team includes Brandon Jew of Mister Jiu’s in San Francisco’s Chinatown and Anmao Sun and Ben Moore of Hunter Gatherer, a farm-to-table restaurant group in Shanghai, China. With experience spanning fine dining to fast casual, China to California, our team is united by a shared love for Chinese-American food and a commitment to sustainability, quality sourcing, and community.
Our mission is simple: to create Happier and Healthier Communities by spreading the joy of Chinese-American fare and tradition.
We’re looking for a passionate, hands-on Kitchen Manager to lead back-of-house operations at one of our Mill Valley restaurant. This is a very hands-on role — you’re in the kitchen every day, working, tasting, coaching, and problem-solving alongside your team, not managing from the sidelines.
You’ll own all aspects of BOH operations: building a strong team culture, ensuring consistent food quality, and managing the daily running of the kitchen. We’re a casual counter-service restaurant that emphasizes quality people, food, and culture — this role is less about culinary creativity and more about building great systems, leading a team, and hitting high standards every shift.
Goals and targets are set in partnership with upper management, but how you get there is up to you. We’re looking for someone excited to grow with us, who takes ownership of continuously improving our systems and standards rather than just maintaining them.
This is a full-time role based in San Francisco. We offer strong benefits, a supportive and upbeat work culture, and a schedule that promotes long‑term success.
