Job summary

Ontario Trillium Foundation in Columbia Township, MO, seeks a Kitchen Manager to direct all kitchen activities, ensuring quality, inventory control, and a high standard of guest dining experiences.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a culinary leadership position with an Upscale or Fine Dining restaurant (3 years).
  • Strong culinary skills and creativity in recipe development.
  • Excellent leadership and management abilities with a track record of team development and training.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Train, develop and motivate supervisors and culinary staff to meet and exceed established food preparation standards consistently.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the kitchens, ensuring efficient and effective workflow.
  • Teach preparation according to well-defined recipes and follow up and discuss ways of constantly improving the cuisine at the property.
  • Display exceptional leadership by providing a positive work environment, counseling employees as appropriate, and demonstrating a dedicated and professional approach to management.
  • Offer assistance to employees regarding training, development, and growth

Job description

As Kitchen Manager, you’ll direct all kitchen activities and prepare our delicious food - helping create memorable experiences for guests - whenever they dine. You’ll also ensure quality, kitchen maintenance, and inventory functions are kept to high standards - to make sure your kitchen is always running smoothly. We are a local landmark; we believe in delivering exceptional dining experiences, and offer a culture of teamwork and excellence, and need the right culinary leader to take us to the next level.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead your team:

  • Direct daily kitchen activities: Create and maintain the weekly schedules, Plan and assign work to each team member, ensuring you always have the right staffing numbers, and maintain labor budgets
  • Development: The Kitchen Manager is responsible for the Onboarding, Training, and Development of each Food and Beverage team member. Train and develop your team through a strict two-week training program, and continued training throughout their employment. Develop and motivate your team by providing feedback and coaching in order to improve their performance, and our overall performance as a team. Create performance and development plans and goals through Performance Evaluations, and encourage team members to reach said goals.
  • Human Resources and accountability: Recommend or initiate any HR related actions where needed, perform coaching and counseling sessions with direct reports, submit and maintain documentation, and ensure all team members’ morals align with the Company’s end goal.
  • Morale: Drive a great working environment for teams to thrive - connect departments to create a sense of one team.
  • Teamwork: Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.
  • Communication: The Kitchen Manager is responsible for maintaining communication with all department heads to stay informed of kitchen needs, upcoming events, and ensure timely responses.

Responsible business:

  • You’ll make sure our dishes are always at their best - we have standards - but it’s down to you to make it memorable for guests
  • Keep an eye on competitor activity/industry innovation to develop your own ideas in the kitchen
  • Make sure food and drinks are secure and stored safely - always keep stock replenished to minimize waste
  • Ensure that all kitchen equipment and environment are hygienic and working properly
  • Always follow governmental regulations and company policies and procedures.
  • Ad-hoc duties - unexpected moments when we have to pull together to get a task done

Guest experience:

  • Encourage guest feedback to improve guest satisfaction
  • Answer guest questions about dishes and kitchen services

Financial:

  • Complete forecasts, plans, and departmental production reports for management
  • Help prepare the annual budget and the setting of departmental goals
  • Maintain costing and documentation of all dishes prepared and sold from the kitchen
