  • Provide a positive, friendly, efficient and responsible meal service to the students and staff of the assigned building. Perform a variety of duties in the serving of food to students and staff with related set up and clean-up work. Promote school meals through advertising and promotions in the school.
  • Communicate and serve meals to students. Issue tickets, receive cash, make change, account for number of free and reduced lunches and milk sold adhering to established procedures. Notify parent of lunch money due.
  • Operate Point of sale system utilizing computer keyboards or keypads, computer screens, scanners, and printers and other equipment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and dignity of students receiving free and reduced meals. Provide positive, professional and friendly service.
  • Schedule serving time with principal and secretary and serve according to schedule each day. As allowed by individual schools, obtain student help through principal and secretary, plan and assign work to student helpers, and assume major share of actual work.
  • Work cooperatively with the school in processing free and reduced lunch applications.
  • Check condition and accuracy of count of food or packaged lunches as received upon arrival, and use directed procedures for display, serving, heating, portioning and ordering needed food or supplies.
  • Maintain equipment and kitchen in a sanitary, clean and attractive condition. Notify Central Kitchen and/or school custodian of necessary equipment repairs in timely manner, and in detail according to department protocol. Maintain any kitchen or cafeteria displays according to allotted budget.
  • Use proper safety standards in all aspects of serving and clean-up work.
  • Responsible for providing complete meal service with fully prepared and up to date kitchen décor, signs and menus for the first day of school and after any school breaks.
  • Attend all contracted meetings.
  • Develop and maintain positive customer relations with staff and service providers.
  • Work collaboratively with District staff and promote teamwork with co-workers.
  • Federal Way School District requires employees to adhere and comply with the State of Washington and King County Department of Health food code.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Elementary Kitchen Manager is responsible for the positive promotion and operation of meal services to Elementary schools within the Nutrition Services Department of Federal Way School District. This position is responsible to serve quality meals that are safe, sanitary and follow Nutrition Services Department protocol for all aspects of meal service at the school.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education and Experience
    High school diploma or equivalent
    Current FWPS Employee or Guest Employee with Nutrition Services

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Past experience in service industry serving the public, cash handling experience
    Working knowledge of basic computer applications
    National School Lunch Program experience
    Member ASFSA, WSFSA

    CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
    Criminal background clearance
    Possess and maintain a valid and current Food Handler's Permit
    Adhere to attire protocol
    Possess and maintain a valid Washington state driver’s license

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently stand and walk, bend neck and back, and use hands for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling.
    The employee is frequently required to squat, stoop, kneel, and use hands for fine manipulation. The employee will occasionally be required to sit, lift and reach overhead, crawl, and lift/carry. The position also requires driving, hearing, speaking, writing, and keyboarding.
    The employee must constantly lift/handle at least 40 pounds. The employee will occasionally lift/handle a maximum of 50 lbs. The employee is occasionally required to push/pull carts weighing at least 400 lbs.

    Work schedules are varied according to the available meal times of the building and may change according to building needs.

    LEVEL OF COMPENSATION
    Level B in the Nutrition Services Department on the PSE Salary Schedule.This position includes the following benefits prorated based on FTE – Medical, dental vision, sick and vacation leave, life insurance, retirement.
