Job Type: 35 Hours per week

Schedule: 9-months Monday through Friday

Salary Range: Group 5 from $20.42 to $25.40 per hour

Position Purpose: Oversee the staff and daily production of high quality food under sanitary conditions. Ensure customer satisfaction through exemplary service and appealing food.


Responsibilities:

  1. Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
  2. Supervise entire kitchen staff, answers questions, schedules staff, and delegates tasks.
  3. Oversees all food production and ensures smooth workflow daily for both lunch and breakfast.
  4. Maintain high standards of sanitation and safety for kitchen staff and in food preparation. This includes accurate food temperature recording and serving, and proper temperatures for food storage units including freezers, cooler, and hot boxes.
  5. Determine quantities of food to be prepared each day.
  6. Ensure all book work, money counts, and deposits are completed daily utilizing various computer programs.
  7. Prepare and place food orders.
  8. Train and cross train staff.
  9. Understand and ensure compliance with USDA Child Nutrition guidelines.
  10. Check and approve all time cards for elementary staff.
  11. Receive and stock all food and supplies and rotate on a FIFO basis.
  12. Work as effectively and efficiently as possible.
  13. Confer with the Director of Nutrition Services on problems in food preparation, personnel, equipment breakdown, ordering, etc.
  14. Work with the Director of Nutrition Services in development of new methods of preparation and service, time and motion economics, and future equipment needs.
  15. Participate in annual employee workshops.
  16. Complete additional duties as assigned.
  17. Participate in all mandatory training or training appropriate to the position as required by the district.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  2. Minimum 1 year previous experience with large quantity food preparation.
  3. Minimum 1 year previous supervisory experience.
  4. Complete State, Department of Education, School Food Service Statewide Training Program or equivalent specified courses on a scheduled basis.
  5. Must be able to problem solve under stressful situations.
  6. Good organization and math skills, ability to prepare food according to standardized recipes, ability to remember and compute standard food measurements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Two or more years previous experience with large quantity food preparation.
