Job description

SALARY: $15.59-$17.30 per hour

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Position responsibilities will center on the nutrition program and all related food services of the center, including but not limited to planning, shopping, and preparing all meals and snacks for the Center. Managing the daily operations of the kitchen as needed to provide meals for children enrolled in the Center. Duties will normally not include classroom responsibilities but may be required in case of an emergency. All work will be done under the supervision of the Director and Assistant Director.

DUTIES:

  • Meal planning and cooking.
  • Keep records and documentation required by the Colorado Adult and Child Food Program.
  • Review food program with supervisor on a weekly basis
  • Provide assistance to teacher for food and cooking experiences that may be incorporated into classroom activities.
  • Responsible for collaboration of meal planning with supervisor that meets CACFP guidelines.
  • Responsible for posting monthly menu on parent board.
  • Responsible for ordering food on a monthly basis, approved by the supervisor and within the budget.
  • Responsible for taking food to the classroom on time as assigned and at the appropriate temperature to avoid food borne illness.
  • Responsible for all areas of CACFP, including participating in CACFP training as required and assigned by the Director.
  • Responsible for keeping the kitchen clean and organized.
  • Responsible for following all Food Safety and Handling Guidelines set by the Department of Health.
  • Ensuring all safety guidelines are followed.
  • Storing and shelving food according to Health Department Guidelines.
  • Keeping the supervisor informed of kitchen needs-equipment, products, supplies, staff, etc.
  • Collaboratively working with kitchen aid with daily operations of the kitchen including, planning, washing dishes, and storing food.
  • Following all duties assigned by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The person selected for this position must be an experienced cook, possess knowledge of basic-good nutrition principles, and have demonstrated ability to plan for economy, shopping, planning, preparing and serving balanced meals and snacks. The person should have good personal cleanliness habits and should be interested in working with children. In addition, the person should have the ability to supervise the work of others if necessary. The ability to communicate in a positive and effective manner with the public, which contributes to the goals and objectives of the center and its clients, fellow coworkers, etc. in order to establish a healthy environment, is required. Requires that the incumbent is able to take direction and remain flexible in order to comply with the Rules and Regulations set by the Department of Human Services for Child Care Centers and the duties assigned thereof. Must be able to follow the guidelines set by the Public Health Department for proper handling and storage of food items.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Periodic contact with the public, answering the phone, contact with families and classroom staff. Personal work relationship with the Director and Assistant Director to ensure the nutrition goals are being met and that all CACFP requirements are being met.
