Job summary

Millard Public Schools is hiring for the 2026-2027 school year for a 10-month, 6-hour-per-day Middle School Kitchen Helper. The role assists with preparation, serving, and cleanup of meals for students under supervision.

Responsibilities include cooking and portioning meals, cleaning equipment, handling light food-service duties, and serving students. You will work with staff and students and must be punctual and adaptable to daily schedule changes.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience in high-volume food preparation and serving is desired; school kitchen experience is preferred.
• Upon hire, you must take Food Handlers Class within 30 days of employment.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, students, and others.
• Ability and willingness to follow work instructions in all areas of foodservice and maintain a positive attitude toward the foodservice program.
• Ability to report to work on time and notify manager at the earliest possible time when unable to work.

• Cleans equipment used, including utensils, dishes, mixers, and machines; performs general kitchen cleaning (25%).
• Performs miscellaneous food service duties, including acting as a cashier for lunch (secondary), assembling machines, counting money, ordering and putting away supplies, and securing food for shipment to other kitchens (20%).
• Serves prepared food to students (10%).
• Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
• Able to interact with students, building staff, kitchen staff and supervisors in a positive manner.

General Summary

• Performs assigned duties associated with the preparation of meals. Cooks and bakes food, prepares individual portions, and performs other food preparation duties as assigned.(45%)
• Cleans equipment used, including utensils, dishes, mixers, and machines. Performs general cleaning duties in the kitchen. (25%)
• Performs miscellaneous food service duties as assigned, including acting as a cashier for lunch (secondary only), putting machines together, counting money, ordering and putting away supplies, and securing food in containers for shipment to other school kitchens. (20%)
• Serves prepared food to students. (10%)
• Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
• Able to interact with students, building staff, kitchen staff and supervisors in a positive manner.
