Job summary

Children’s Home & Aid seeks a Cook's Assistant for the El Hogar Del Niño Child & Family Center in Chicago. You will assist the cook with daily meal preparation and maintain kitchen cleanliness in a high-volume environment.

The role requires a high school diploma, basic English literacy, and a Food Sanitation Certificate within 90 days. Spanish ability is a plus, with full-time hours and benefits included.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Food Sanitation Certificate within 90 days.
• One year minimum of high-volume cooking experience.
• Understanding nutrition needs of children and adults.
• Basic reading and writing in English; Spanish helpful.

Responsibilities

• Assist in daily meal preparation according to menu.
• Post menu changes in classrooms as required.
• Maintain daily meal counts.
• Clean and maintain the kitchen.
• Prepare food service cart with utensils and meals.
• Set out dishes, serves food, and collects dishes.
• Keep pantry, coffee table, microwave and kitchen areas clean.
• Oversee kitchen operations in Cook's absence.
