Job description

Overview

Assist the department manager in effectively planning, organizing, leading, coordinating, and optimizing the materials and human resources in the kitchen department. The goal is to provide a variety of high-quality merchandise, attractively displayed, to maximize sales and profits while maintaining excellent customer service.

Starting pay: $19.25 per hour

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age with a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Successful experience in kitchen operations (merchandising, ordering, inventory, pricing)
  • Complete training in kitchen operations
  • 3-5 years of professional cooking experience in the food industry
  • Ability to display initiative and work with limited supervision
  • Must be ServSafe certified
  • Computer skills including email communication and basic Word processing
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, and follow instructions
  • Flexible schedule based on store needs
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
Responsibilities

  • Create an open-door atmosphere to foster high associate morale and excellent customer service, managing in a respectful, supportive, and team-oriented style (RSTO).
  • Promote the “Golden Rule” and collaborate with others to build a strong kitchen team.
  • Represent the company as a service-oriented operation, ensuring associates greet, assist, and thank customers courteously and efficiently.
  • Possess strong communication skills to facilitate department meetings.
  • Ensure all new associates receive proper onboarding, training, and review of job expectations.
  • Administer fair discipline to promote morale.
  • Assist with inventory, security, and expense control.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws (e.g., labor laws, sanitation, dress code).
  • Resolve customer complaints satisfactorily.
  • Maintain merchandising standards aligned with community needs.
  • Train and develop associates to ensure a highly trained kitchen team.
  • Complete onboarding, e-learnings, and checklists within 30 days of hire.
  • Manage deliveries: order, receive, unload, store, and prepare products for display and sale.
  • Rotate stock according to FIFO (first in, first out) to ensure freshness.
  • Control storage to minimize shrink and damage.
  • Meet merchandising goals in cooperation with store management.
  • Assist in scheduling work shifts and breaks to meet payroll targets.
  • Adhere to wage and hour policies, maintain records, and respond to reports promptly.
  • Monitor refrigeration units to ensure product quality and report issues immediately.
  • Engage with customers by offering samples, answering questions, and assisting with product selection.
  • Prepare special orders as requested.
  • Minimize department expenses without compromising quality or service (e.g., supplies, payroll).
  • Use initiative and good judgment to act on opportunities and solve problems.
  • Ensure safety, sanitation, and proper food handling standards are met.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in the work area, reporting hazards promptly.

Secondary Job Functions:

  • Verify price accuracy for customers.
  • Ensure product labels, signs, and prices are correct and aligned.
  • Report theft, shoplifting, unauthorized markdowns, or property damage to management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
