Rise Academy in Richmond, VA is seeking a dependable Part-Time Kitchen Assistant to support daily meal prep and service for students and staff. You will work with the School Chef to maintain a clean, organized, safe, and welcoming kitchen and cafeteria.

Responsibilities include assisting with meal preparation, serving meals, portioning, sanitizing, dishwashing, stocking supplies, and following food safety and allergy procedures.

Formación

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Food service, cafeteria, or kitchen experience preferred but not required.
• Basic knowledge of food handling, sanitation, and kitchen safety.
• Ability to follow instructions and work well in a team.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance.
• Ability to interact with students professionally.
• Must complete background checks and employment requirements.

Responsabilidades

• Assist with daily food preparation and meal setup under the direction of the School Chef.
• Assist with serving breakfast, lunch, snacks, and other food items as assigned.
• Portion and distribute meals according to established serving guidelines.
• Prepare serving areas before meals and clean and sanitize areas after meal service.
• Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, trays, and kitchen equipment.
• Clean and sanitize counters, tables, food preparation areas, appliances, and other kitchen surfaces.
• Sweep, mop, remove trash, and assist with maintaining the overall cleanliness of the kitchen and cafeteria.
• Assist with receiving, unpacking, organizing, and properly storing food and kitchen supplies.
• Monitor supplies and notify the School Chef when food, cleaning products, or other kitchen items need to be replenished.
• Follow appropriate food handling, sanitation, health, and safety procedures.
• Properly store food and assist with monitoring food temperatures as required.
• Follow procedures related to student food allergies and dietary restrictions.
• Maintain a professional, respectful, and positive attitude when interacting with students, staff, families, vendors, and visitors.
• Assist with food preparation and service for school events or special activities when scheduled during regular work hours.
• Perform other kitchen and food service duties as assigned.

Rise Academy is seeking a dependable and service-oriented Part-Time Kitchen Assistant to support the daily preparation and service of meals for our students and staff. The Kitchen Assistant will work closely with the School Chef and other designated staff to help maintain an organized, clean, safe, and welcoming kitchen and cafeteria environment.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a school community, takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety, and is committed to providing excellent service to students and staff.

Schedule

Monday–Friday
9:00 AM–2:00 PM
Approximately 25 hours per week

The work schedule generally follows Rise Academy's school operating calendar and may be adjusted based on school needs, special events, or closures.

Requirements

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous food service, restaurant, cafeteria, or commercial kitchen experience preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of basic food preparation, sanitation, and kitchen safety practices preferred.
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance.
• Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and food safety.
• Ability to interact appropriately and professionally with high school students.
• Must be able to successfully complete all background checks and employment requirements established by Rise Academy.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Bend, reach, stoop, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements associated with kitchen work.
• Safely lift and carry food, supplies, cookware, and equipment.
• Work in an environment that may include heat, steam, refrigeration, and wet or slippery surfaces.
• Perform routine cleaning and sanitation duties.
