Job summary

Dassel-Cokato Public Schools is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support meal preparation and service for students and staff at our district facilities.

The role involves operating the Point of Sale system, ensuring USDA-requirement compliance for reimbursable meals, and performing routine kitchen cleaning tasks in a school kitchen environment.

Qualifications

• Must have basic food preparation knowledge and safe handling procedures.
• Ability to follow sanitation and safety regulations in a kitchen setting.
• Strong time management and ability to work with interruptions.
• Effective communication with staff and ability to follow directions.
• Knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Program regulations is a plus.

Job description

Dassel Cokato Public Schools is looking to add a Kitchen Assistant to their team.

Duties

• Assist with preparing and serving meals for students, staff and special functions
• Effectively operate the Point of Sale System
• Ensures that each reimbursable meal sold meets USDA requirements
• Performs a variety of kitchen cleaning duties
• Assist with setting up serving line and serves meals according to meal patterns.
• Projects a positive & professional image of themselves, their school and the Child Nutrition Dept. to all students, staff and parents.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Prepare, set up and serve high quality nutritious meals to students and adults atall schools.
• Performdaily production tasks as needed to include but not limited to; cook, steam, bake all other techniques
• Ensure proper sanitation and safety standards and regulations are in place and followed
• Ability to continuously move/lift up to 50 lbs, frozen food boxes, canned foods etc.
• Daily use of computer software program to manage student's meal accounts
• Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others

Qualifications

• High school diploma
• Working knowledge of food preparation methods, kitchen cleaning methods and serving and storage techniques
• Working knowledge of safety and accident prevention techniques pertains to food preparation and kitchen facilities
• Working knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
• Highly effective time management skills
• Ability to follow a standardized recipe
• Ability to remain calm under trying circumstances and work with frequent interruptions
• Ability to read and understand operating manuals for equipment used
• Ability to communicate effectively and follow through with staff to ensure direction is followed
• Knowledge and understanding of USDA Child Nutrition Program regulation
