Job summary

Phoenix House of New York | Long Island is seeking a dedicated kitchen assistant to join our residential dining team in Ronkonkoma, NY. You will receive deliveries, store and rotate stock, and help prepare ingredients for daily menus, while maintaining a clean, organized kitchen and complying with food safety standards.

This role supports campus cooks in producing meals for residents, requires on-site work in the evenings, and offers benefits as part of a nonprofit program dedicated to recovery

Qualifications

  • NYS Serv Safe certificate.
  • Previous restaurant experience.
  • On-the-job knife use and safe food handling training.

Responsibilities

  • Receives deliveries and stores food in refrigerators and freezers.
  • Rotates stock to maintain freshness.
  • Cleans food preparation areas and removes kitchen garbage.
  • Makes lists of items to order for campus cooks and keeps the kitchen organized.
  • Prepares ingredients for the Campus cook to make entrees and meals.
  • Washes, chops, grates and slices vegetables for dishes.
  • Cuts and slices meats to appropriate portions.
  • Complies with special handling for restricted diets.
  • Assists in cleaning the kitchen.

You will have responsibilities including but not limited to:
  • Receives deliveries and stores food in refrigerators and freezers.

  • Makes lists of items that need to be ordered for campus cooks and assists in keeping the kitchen organized.
  • Prepares the ingredients for Campus cook to prepare the entrees and meals that are offered on the menu.

  • Cuts and slices meats to the appropriate portion sizes.
  • Complies with special food handling requirements for certain restricted diets

WORK ENVIRONMENT
