TITLE: COOK/NUTRITION WORKER
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of food service production.
- Previous experience in a school food service setting preferred.
- Knowledge of food preparation, storage, and handling techniques.
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Kitchen Manager/Director of Nutrition/Building Administrator
DEMONSTRATED SKILLS & ABILITY:
- Must have physical and mental capabilities to perform assigned work, including professional conduct and punctuality.
- Ability to safely and properly operate commercial food production equipment.
- Ability to interact efficiently with other food services staff, school staff, students, parents, and the public.
- Ability to apply sanitation and safety practices and adhere to established guidelines.
- Ability to work as a team member toward common goals and accept responsibility for tasks assigned.
- Ability to follow instructions and practice good listening and communication skills.
JOB GOAL: To provide nutritious, appealing, tasty, and safe meals to the children and adults in our school district, and to meet and exceed performance standards while carrying out job duties as listed below and as assigned.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITY:
- Perform food production tasks as requested by the Kitchen Manager or the Director of Nutrition.
- Cleans and maintains school food service equipment and facilities.
- Operates equipment and performs work tasks in a safe and sanitary manner.
- Develops and maintains good working relationships with co‑workers.
- Develops and maintains good public relations with students, parents, and the community.
- Takes an active role in improving food quality and the general operation of the food service program by suggesting changes or new ideas to the Kitchen Manager or the Director of Nutrition.
- Demonstrates responsibility and leadership, and understands the management chain of command.
- Will attend 6 hours of annual continuing education training.
- Will obtain basic knowledge of Child Nutrition standards, meal requirements, and components to assist with serving and food preparation as requested by the Kitchen Manager and Director of Nutrition.
- Assists the Director of Nutrition in establishing a positive public relations program for the school through effective handling of telephone calls and personal contacts with employees of the district, parents, citizens, students, and visitors. Respects confidentiality in school matters.
- Performs other tasks and assists other food service workers as delegated by the Kitchen Manager and/or the Director of Nutrition.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be determined by the Board in consultation with the superintendent.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board Policy.
