Position Summary

At KIPP Public Schools Northern California, there is a need for intensive English Language support for all of our multilingual learners. The ELD teacher reports to the School Leader and will facilitate push-in and pull-out lessons using research-based ELD standards-aligned curriculum. Below are the expectations of all teachers working in KIPP Northern California:

As such, our teachers will work closely with each school’s leadership team to ensure our students learn, grow, and eventually achieve transformative life outcomes. Each teacher will be responsible for ensuring that our students have the opportunity to learn in an environment of joyful, excellent teaching.

Above all else, the most effective teacher will find joy and purpose in teaching children the habits necessary to be successful in school, and they will relish the opportunity to imbue our students with a love for learning. They must also be committed to KIPP Public Schools Northern California’s mission, while possessing the beliefs, character traits, and skills necessary to ensure student growth and achievement.

Teachers are expected to plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a TK-12 learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic and socio-emotional potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal.

  • Have the ability to learn and utilize instructional technology to support in-class and distance learning (i.e. Zoom, Nearpod)
  • Hold a B.A/B.S degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Hold a valid teaching credential or be in the process of securing one

This is a school-based role and the expectation is to be onsite 5 days a week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as an educator teaching Black and Brown students for one or more years (preferred)
  • Spanish or Vietnamese speaking (preferred)

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Lead an academically rigorous classroom through activities such as:

  • Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials for our Multilingual learners
  • Teach curricula aligned to ELD standards and Common Core ELA standards
  • Support and coach teachers on how to integrate ELD standards and Common Core ELA standards
  • Assess and analyze students’ performance and progress to ensure they are mastering developmental skills regularly, and responding to data to support all scholars to achieve academic success

Build Relationships with our students, passionate staff, and committed families by:

  • Maintain an open line of communication with families
  • Work to maintain a positive culture on campus by building strong relationships with students and staff members
  • Successfully strike a balance of warm and demanding in your communication with students
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions

Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands

Physical: Ability to navigate school and classroom settings. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs. Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively, which may include kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping and reaching overhead.

Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.

Environmental: School and classroom environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Adhere to KIPP’s health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies’ recommendations.

Classification

This is a full-time, exempt position on a school year calendar cycle, located at our school sites.
