Job summary

Texans Together seeks a Kinship Specialist in the Houston region to provide support, engagement, assessment, and resource coordination for relatives and fictive kin caring for children in the child welfare system. You will collaborate with families, caseworkers, schools, and community partners to promote stability, permanency, and well-being while maintaining confidentiality and accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required. Relevant experience considered in lieu of education requirement.
• Minimum two (2) years’ experience in child welfare, foster care, kinship care, family preservation, or related human services.

Responsibilities

• Identifies, engages, and supports relatives and fictive kin as potential placement and permanency resources.
• Builds trusting relationships with kinship caregivers through family-centered engagement.
• Assesses caregiver strengths, needs, barriers, and available support to promote placement stability.
• Provides information regarding financial assistance, benefits, resources, and support services.
• Assists caregivers in developing plans that strengthen stability, safety, permanency, and well-being.
• Collaborates with children, families, caregivers, caseworkers, providers, schools, and community organizations to coordinate services.
• Supports kinship caregivers in navigating child welfare processes and accessing resources.
• Promotes caregiver participation in case planning and permanency activities.
• Maintains confidentiality and safeguards sensitive client information.
• Maintains accurate and timely documentation of contacts, assessments, referrals, services, and outcomes.
