Qualifications

• Must be licensed in accordance with Tennessee law and the regulations of the Tennessee Department of Education.
• Certificate must be maintained; if license lapses, suspension may occur.
• Competency based on the current job assignment and local evaluation standards.
• Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Principal or Director of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable

Responsibilities

• Provide cooperation in carrying out instructions from the principal before, during and after the school day.
• Provide instruction to the students in the areas assigned by the Board, Director of Schools, and Principal.
• Record attendance accurately in the prescribed manner.
• Follow Tennessee curriculum standards and local course of study; follow state rules and local policies.
• Maintain relationships with families and community.
• Inform parents of student progress and hold conferences as necessary.
• Report suspicions related to a child’s health or welfare to the appropriate authorities.
• Abide by the Tennessee Teacher Code of Ethics.
• Participate in staff development sessions at the school/system level.
• Use district resources effectively and efficiently.
• Follow the proper complaint/grievance process.
• Report accidents/injuries on the required form.
• Supervise students appropriately.
• Maintain class records and submit as requested.
• Maintain cumulate records for each child.
• Maintain a clean, safe classroom.
• Administer assessments and analyze data to improve instruction.
• Plan, prepare, implement, and assess instructional lessons that teach standards.
• Maintain order to support student learning.
