Okemos Public Schools is seeking a dedicated individual to support the kindergarten classroom at Bennett Woods Elementary. The role involves assisting the lead teacher to create a nurturing and engaging learning environment for young children.

This part-time position offers an opportunity to contribute to our students' educational journey. The candidate should have a high school diploma (early childhood coursework is a plus) and prior experience with young children.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; coursework in early childhood education is a plus.
• Previous experience working with young children, preferably in an educational setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Patience, compassion, and a genuine love for working with children.
• Basic understanding of child development principles.
• Ability to pass background checks as required by school policy.

Responsibilities

• Assist the lead teacher in student supervision and instructional support.
• Supervise and engage with students during classroom activities, recess, and lunch.
• Provide individualized support to students as needed, fostering their academic and social development.
• Help maintain a clean and organized classroom environment.
• Assist with classroom management and behavior guidance.
• Prepare learning materials and assist with classroom setup.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to support student needs.
• Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
