Job description

Back to Earth School is seeking a warm, dependable, and nurturing assistant to join our Early Childhood program for the 2025/26 school year. The ideal candidate brings a calm, joyful presence, a deep love for young children, and a willingness to support the classroom teacher in creating a beautiful, rhythmic, and nurturing environment. Our early childhood program is rooted in play, nature connection, and intentional simplicity.

Located on eight wooded acres in the heart of Oklahoma City, Back to Earth School is home to a vibrant and supportive community of teachers and families. Our Early Childhood program is guided by Waldorf-inspired principles and values outdoor exploration, practical work, and the slow unfolding of childhood.

School Schedule:

September 2, 2025, to May 20, 2026

In class hours:

Monday-Thursday| 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

Out of class hours:

Team Meetings, In-Service Days, Professional Development, and School Festivals

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the lead teacher in daily classroom rhythm and routines
  • Maintain a peaceful, orderly, and beautiful classroom environment
  • Participate joyfully in all areas of the curriculum, including gardening, singing, handwork, circle time, and festival life
  • Help with classroom cleaning and preparation before the start of the school year
  • Take part in classroom care and maintenance throughout the year
  • Assist with set-up and clean-up for festivals and special events

Required Training/Attributes:

  • Red Cross/CPR First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • A warm, caring, and grounded presence
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Physical and emotional vitality to meet the needs of young children with joy and presence
  • Willingness to receive guidance from the lead teacher and uphold the established classroom rhythm and culture
  • A love of nature and comfort of working outdoors in all weather

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and floor-sitting with children
  • Ability to lift, carry, and engage in physical work (up to 50 lbs)
  • Willingness to be outside with children in all seasons

Salary is based on education and experience.
