Virginia Beach City Public Schools is seeking a dedicated paraprofessional to assist the kindergarten teacher with instructional activities and reinforce material through repetition. The role involves small-group instruction, behavior support, and preparing materials to create a conducive learning environment.
Responsibilities include planning lessons with teachers, monitoring student progress, assisting with library materials, and performing general office tasks.

General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in classroom teaching; ability to maintain confidential files and information and to compile reports; ability to deal effectively with students and teachers; skill in the use of classroom and instructional equipment; ability to operate standard office, word and data processing equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students and associates.
Required: High School Diploma or GED.
Title I Assistants Only: Must have a minimum of 48 college credits or provide documentation of passing the Paraprofessional Assessment test, or have an Associate's Degree on higher. Some experience in working with children.
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Frequent sitting, walking, bending, grasping, fingering, repetitive motion, and reaching. Occasional standing, running, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and crawling. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Requires timely and regular adherence to established work schedules. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
Possession of a valid driver's license Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Compensation will be based on job-related creditable years of full-time, verified work experience. The entry-level rate will be awarded at the time of hire. Upon the return of employment verification forms from the candidate's current and previous employers, the rate will be adjusted if creditable full-time experience is confirmed.
