Job summary

Georgia-Pacific is hiring Kilns/Lift Operator to join our Lumber facility in Albany, GA. The role involves operating kilns, monitoring the kiln alarm system, and controlling the drying process to produce quality lumber.

Starting pay is $22/hr, with potential increases based on skills and contributions to overall plant performance. Shift hours are 7:00 am–7:00 pm with a 2/2/3 rotation and a $0.50 shift premium for overnight hours.

Qualifications

  • Minimum six (6) months of experience in manufacturing/industrial environment or related technical training.
  • Minimum six (6) months of experience operating a forklift or similar heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Knows the kiln alarm system and can respond appropriately.
  • Controls a process (tank levels, temperatures, flows, moisture readings).
  • Uses a computer to safely operate burners and kilns to dry products.
  • Troubleshoots complex machine-center problems.
  • Makes critical decisions around burner operations and drying processes.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and fixes issues with machine center accurately.
  • May work additional days or stay late for maintenance on short notice.

Schedule
  • Shift Hours: 7:00 am-7:00 pm
  • Standard schedule is a 2/2/3 rotation

Our Team

Our team creates value by safely assisting with the production of lumber for our valued customers.

What You Will Do
  • Knowledge and understanding of the kiln alarm system and be able to react appropriately.
  • The ability to control a process (i.e. tank levels, temperatures, flows, moisture readings, etc.)
  • Using a computer to control burners and kilns safely while properly drying a quality product.
  • Troubleshooting complex problems within the machine center.
  • Making critical decisions around burner operations and effective drying processes.
  • Performing all PM’s and correct issues with precision and accuracy on machine center.
  • Potentially work additional days or stay late on maintenance days when needed with short notice to perform tasks at machine center.
  • Transport, store, and feed in-process lumber with multi-ton forklift (Taylor)
  • Ensuring work area is neat and organized.
  • Forklift operates 100% outside in a climate-controlled environment.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Basic Qualifications
  • A minimum of six (6) months of experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, construction, farming, warehouse, or military environment OR completion of training/schooling in a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of six (6) months of experience operating a forklift, backhoe, front end loader, or skid steer.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience operating a dry kiln, either burner or boiler.
  • At least one (1) year of experience operating a multi-ton forklift or other related heavy equipment.
  • Experience with rigging equipment and knowing how to identify the load weight to understand what rigging equipment is needed.
