Job summary

Oakland Schools is hiring Before School, Kids Club Assistants to support Birmingham Public Schools. The role involves rotating to different elementary schools as needed, supervising activities, and providing a safe, engaging environment for children PreK–5th grade.

You’ll work with the Kids Club Director and district staff to plan activities and maintain order. Responsibilities include supervising groups, preparing materials, facilitating crafts and homework help, and communicating with parents.

Responsibilities

• Go to the BPS elementary school that needs the assistant.
• Help the Kids Club Director develop and maintain a safe, nurturing environment for each child.
• Supervise and provide care and activities such as crafts, games, and homework help.
• Interact with children to develop positive relationships.
• Contribute and gather/prepare materials as assigned by the Director or District Supervisor.
• Act as a positive role model for children.
• Monitor developing situations in the classroom.
• Support half-day Kids Club programs beyond regular hours.
• Attend Kids Club staff meetings and district development sessions.
• Work one-on-one with students or in small groups as needed.
• Communicate verbally with parents and colleagues.
• During emergencies or director absence, assume responsibility.
• Perform other job-related duties for PreK through 5th grade programming.

Birmingham Public Schools is seeking Before School, Kids Club Assistants. This is a position is hired through EduStaff for BPS.

JOB SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• - Ability to go to whichever BPS elementary school needs the assistant that morning.
• - Help the Kids Club Director develop and maintain a safe, nurturing, and positive environment for each child.
• - Help with supervising and providing care and activities, such as crafts, games, homework help, etc.
• - Interact with children to develop positive relationships.
• - Contribute and gather/prepare materials as assigned by the Director or District Supervisor.
• - Act as a positive role model for children.
• - Aware of and attentive to developing situations in the classroom.
• - In addition to the regular hours listed above, help the supervising Teacher/Director supervise and provide care for half-day Kids Club programs.
• - Attend Kids Club Staff meetings as scheduled and staff development sessions conducted by the district.
• - Work one-on-one with students or in small groups as needed.
• - Communicate verbally with parents and colleagues.
• - Assume responsibility in an emergency or if the director is absent.
• - Perform other job-related duties as requested by the District Supervisor, which may encompass PreK through 5th grade programming.
