Job summary

Oahe Family YMCA in Pierre, SD seeks a Kid Stop Teacher to supervise school-age children in the afterschool program. You will implement developmentally appropriate activities, ensure safety, and maintain positive communication with families and staff.

Training starts before/through the first week, with CPR/First Aid and Kids Stop Training required within 30 days. The role involves engaging children in a mix of indoor and outdoor activities, adhering to licensing ratios, and representing the YMCA

Qualifications

• Experience with school-age children preferred.
• CPR, First Aid, AED and Kids Stop Training within 30 days of hire.
• Must be able to lead and participate in activities both indoors and outdoors.

Responsibilities

• Supervises a group of children as assigned by the Youth Development Director.
• Implements developmentally appropriate activities aligned with YMCA core values.
• Adheres to safety, cleanliness, and program standards.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings; wears YMCA apparel on duty.
• Punches time clock and participates in daily briefings.
• Follows YMCA policies including medical, disciplinary, and emergencies.
• Maintains positive communication with parents and staff.
• Adheres to SD licensing requirements, including staff-to-student ratio.
• Engages directly with small groups and participates in large group activities.
• Represent the YMCA positively during field trips and community interactions.
• Follows the outlined daily curriculum and adapts activities as needed.

# Kid Stop TeacherHot JobOahe Family YMCA - PIERRE, SD 57501Start Date 07/13/2026End Date 11/02/2026## OverviewSalary Range$16.00 - $18.00## Kid Stop Teacher**Position Summary:**Under the supervision of the Youth Development Director this position provides direct supervision of a group of children in the YMCA’s afterschool program. This position is for qualified applicants ages 18 years of age and older. This position provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Applications will be taken until July 31st. Interviews to be held on August 8th. The first day of work will be August 12th for training at 5:30PM.**Essential Functions:**1. Supervises a group of children each day as assigned by the Youth Development Director.2. Implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values.3. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.4. Attends staff meetings, trainings and wears the required YMCA apparel while on duty.5. Punches the time clock as close to 3:00pm as possible and is ready for a quick staff briefing at 3:10 every day.6. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.7. Maintains positive communication with parents and other staff.8. Adhere to the state of South Dakota licensing requirements, including but not limited to, a 1:15 minimum ratio of staff to students.9. Be engaged directly with their small group, but also engaged during large group times like check-in/check-out, guest speakers and other large group activities.10. Represent the YMCA in a positive manner on field trips and other interaction with community members you may visit the YMCA programs.11. Follow the outlined curriculum as planned for each day, but also be prepared to adapt and change activities when necessary.## Qualifications**Qualifications:**1. Previous experience working with school-age children preferred.2. YMCA New Employee Orientation, CPR, First Aid, AED and Kids Stop Training within 30 days of hire date.**Physical Demands:**Ability to lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
