Overview

This job posting is for a Staples Key Account Executive role focused on driving account growth and profitability by securing incremental and renewal contractual commitments from Economic Buying Influences (EBIs) and Technical Buying Influences (TBIs) across all product categories. The position involves leading account growth strategies, collaborating with category experts, and engaging customers remotely via phone, video, and on-site visits using digital tools. You are required to live in IL, KY, IA, AL, MO or WI to be eligible.

What you'll be doing
  • Utilize prescribed selling tools to prioritize activities, document customer engagement and information (e.g., Prioritized Insights and SFDC).
  • Lead the Key Account selling team (category experts, site development, CSM, sales engineers, etc.) to execute the account growth plan.
  • Collaborate with Revenue Management on opportunities to make discretionary pricing decisions based on account knowledge and future spend potential; pass BPIs based on contract language.
  • Exhibit high level of business acumen and sales methodologies to discover incremental opportunities and align with customer vision and initiatives (e.g., I&D, sustainability, HR); understand the competitive landscape.
  • Engage Customer Success Management (CSM) to manage customer experience and maintenance requests.
  • Grow the book of business by pursuing programmatic and transactional opportunities at the master account level across all categories and drive sales through program compliance at all sites.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with senior executives within the customer base; drive incremental sales and profitability; create growth strategy based on customer needs; execute strategies defined by senior leadership.
  • Integrate customer feedback into sales approach; provide Staples solutions to customer challenges and situations; communicate with prospects and customers daily in a professional manner.
What you bring to the table
  • Strong drive, competitive mindset, and desire to win; ability to view rejection as a learning opportunity.
  • Proven experience in program management or business development; ability to interface at senior levels; strong presentation skills (in-person and virtual).
  • Consultative, solutions, and insight selling; negotiation and advanced client management skills.
  • Ability to set targets, design growth plans with product category teams; strong business, financial, operations, and technology acumen.
  • Ability to analyze customer data, business, and industry trends to tailor Staples value proposition.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal daily supervision; experience coordinating and executing account planning with cross-functional teams.
  • Negotiating: oversee pricing negotiations for specific opportunities; Lead team selling: coordinate and execute account planning with category experts and customer experience teams; adaptable to change.
Qualifications
  • Basic Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; 4–6 years of successful sales experience; 4–6 years in Office Supplies including facility and breakroom, technology products, business furniture, print and promotional products; 3+ years in Microsoft Office and other basic software tools; 4–6 years in consultative selling, solutions selling, insight selling, negotiation and advanced client management skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; proficiency in Microsoft Office; cross-functional experience in a large, complex company; prior account management and Prospecting with Fortune 1000 accounts; responsibility for a sales budget and exceeding quota; experience managing complex deals from start to finish; B2B sales process experience; ability to retain and grow accounts.
