Job description

General Overview

Under general supervision; provides care for confined animals (e.g. feeds, waters, cleans, exercises, etc.); prepares and maintains records on all animals confined, financial transactions, etc.; assists customers in person and on telephone. Performs other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications

Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below. Completion of a high school equivalent education plus one (1) year of animal care experience; or equivalent combination of training and/or experience. Must possess a valid State of Ohio vehicle operator’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Advanced knowledge of department policies and procedures*. Basic knowledge of dog and kennel laws; animal care; sanitation practices; bookkeeping. Ability to carry out detailed but basic instructions; cooperate with co-workers on group projects; maintain accurate records; prepare meaningful, accurate and concise reports; calculate fractions, decimals and percentages. Skills in communicating effectively; typing; answer routine inquiries from public; calculator operation.

Job Duties

The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification. Confines stray dogs/cats to pens; provides care for confined animals (e.g. fees, waters, cleans, exercises, etc.); cleans and disinfects pens, food, pans and floors. Process animal intakes including vaccinations. Collects data from logs and prepares reports on financial transactions, animal intakes, adoptions and redemptions. Issues dog licenses per the specification outlined in the Ohio Revised Code. Provides information to the public in person and on telephone; redeems animals to owners; assists in animal adoptions. Assists in maintaining inventory including food, cat litter and cleaning supplies. Performs other related duties as required.

•Employee is required to reach with hands and arms, climb, and balance, move, and carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds repeatedly from one location to another

Work Schedule: Mon, Thur, Fri 9:30am-6:00pm. Sat-Sun 6:30am-3:00pm. Hours may vary based upon operational need. Some weekend and evening work will be required.
