Job summary

Whitesburg Animal Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama, is seeking a Kennel Assistant to join our dedicated team. You will support veterinarians and technicians by cleaning, feeding, exercising and handling pets, while maintaining a clean and safe hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
• Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
• This is a strenuous job that requires a lot of lifting, cleaning, and constant motion.
• Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks may include standing for long period of times/walking.
• May involve some stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Some tasks involve lifting or carrying moderately heavy animals (up to 50 pounds).

Responsibilities

• Provides compassionate care to pets.
• Feeds animals as prescribed by the attending Veterinarian or owner, records intake and water consumption.
• Recognizes and reports unusual conditions and monitors pets for distress or disease.
• Assists Veterinarians and technicians with pet restraint.
• Maintains hospital cleanliness and safe chemical usage; cleans equipment and facilities.
• Follows a regular cleaning and sanitizing schedule for cages, runs, wards and related areas; manages laundry and supplies.
• Prioritizes tasks and maintains overall hospital appearance and organization.
