The Kennel Assistant is responsible for providing a clean, efficient, and healthy environment for the animals being treated or boarded at the hospital. A day in the life of a Kennel Assistant includes:
  1. Maintaining the cleanliness of the hospital, including kennel area, runs, treatment area, and outside grounds.
  2. Feeding hospitalized animals and boarders.
  3. Monitoring and recording important information about the animals’ conditions, behavior, and habits (elimination, eating, etc.).
  4. Walking animals three times a day.
  5. Notifying the Doctor or Veterinary Technician/Assistant of unusual medical or behavioral problems.
  6. Cleaning treatment, exam, surgery, and lab areas daily.
  7. Maintaining laundry throughout the day and keeping the laundry area neat.
  8. Assisting the Doctor and Veterinary Assistant with restraint and treatment of animals.
  9. Monitoring and maintaining the kennel inventory, including food, cleaning supplies, and laundry supplies.
  10. Performing other duties as assigned to support the team and ensure smooth clinic operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. High School diploma or GED preferred.
  2. Flexible schedule, including some weekend and holiday shifts.
  3. Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  4. Strong communication skills, good judgment, and ability to manage stressful situations.
  5. Physical and mental capacity to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
  7. Previous experience as a kennel assistant is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Pay range of $12.00-$13.00/hour based on experience.
