Dominion Animal Hospital is your "hometown vet" in the heart of downtown Herndon, VA. We offer Laser therapy, ultrasound, and orthopedic surgeries from 3 traveling board certified veterinarians.

Position: Kennel Assistant

The Kennel Assistant is responsible for providing a clean, efficient, and healthy environment for the animals being treated or boarded at the hospital. A day in the life of a Kennel Assistant includes:

  • Maintaining cleanliness of the hospital, including kennel areas, runs, treatment areas, and outside grounds.
  • Feeding hospitalized animals and boarders.
  • Monitoring and recording important information about animals’ conditions, behavior, and habits (elimination, eating, etc.).
  • Walking animals three times a day.
  • Notifying the Doctor or Veterinary Technician/Assistant of any unusual medical or behavioral problems.
  • Cleaning treatment, exam, surgery, and lab areas daily.
  • Maintaining laundry and keeping laundry area neat throughout the day.
  • Assisting the Doctor and Veterinary Assistant with restraint and treatment of animals.
  • Monitoring and maintaining kennel inventory, including food, cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, etc.
  • Performing other duties as assigned to support the clinic's operations and client care.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Flexible schedule, including some weekend and holiday shifts.
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong communication skills, good judgment, and ability to manage stressful situations.
  • Physical and mental capacity to perform in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
  • Previous experience as a kennel assistant is preferred.
