General Statement :

We are actively recruiting a bird keeper, level dependent upon experience. Applicants need only apply once.

Keeper Levels and Responsibilities :
  • Keeper I : Responsible for the safety, health, and well-being of assigned animals through documented husbandry practices. Supports public experiences by training staff and volunteers, developing animal behaviors, and supporting animal programs.
  • Keeper II : Similar responsibilities as Keeper I, with added collaboration in guest experience presentation and supporting the zoo's mission.
  • Senior Keeper : Responsible for daily animal care, scheduling, training staff, developing protocols, and engaging with guests to support the zoo's mission.
Essential Duties :

Includes providing guest service, performing husbandry, developing protocols, behavioral enrichment, participating in health activities, responding to emergencies, facility maintenance, staff training, and supporting public engagement activities. Specific duties vary by level, with increasing responsibilities in leadership, training, and program development.

Qualifications :
  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Science or equivalent experience preferred.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum six months paid or one-year volunteer experience in exotic animal husbandry.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in extreme weather, and on uneven surfaces.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background checks and TB test.
  • Experience and knowledge requirements increase with level, with 2-5 years of relevant experience preferred for higher levels.
