Job summary

SEK-CAP, Inc. is seeking a KDOT Driver to provide safe, reliable transportation for clients, assisting with mobility devices and wheelchair ramps. You will ensure passenger safety, complete logs, and adhere to agency policies while representing SEK-CAP in the community.

Requires a high school diploma or GED, 21+ years of age, and a valid Class C license with CDL preferred. First Aid/CPR within 30 days and DOT drug testing are required; background check and ongoing screenings apply.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 21 years old at hire.
  • First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol test required.
  • Criminal history background check required.
  • Ongoing random drug screening per Kansas DOT.
  • DOT physical exam and renewals as required.
  • Maintain a clean driving record and valid Class C license.
  • Preferred Commercial Class B license with passenger endorsement.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport individuals within city limits and between towns.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and exiting, incl. wheelchairs ramps/lifts.
  • Ensure passengers are secured with seat belts before moving.
  • Follow all traffic laws and SEK-CAP vehicle policies.
  • Complete daily logs, mileage sheets, and inspection forms.
  • Report vehicle issues to Maintenance Manager and attend trainings.

Job description

Classification: Full-time Status: Non- Exempt


POSITION SUMMARY:

The KDOT Driver provides safe, reliable, and courteous transportation services for individuals, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and agency safety requirements. This position plays a key role in supporting mobility, independence, and access to community services for SEK-CAP clients.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Passenger Transportation


  • Safely transport individuals within city limits and between towns as scheduled.

  • Assist passengers with boarding and exiting vehicles, including operating wheelchair ramps/lifts and securing mobility devices.

  • Ensure all passengers are properly secured with seat belts or restraints before moving the vehicle.

  • Serve as a positive representative of SEK-CAP while interacting with passengers, caregivers, service providers, and the general public.


Vehicle Operation & Safety


  • Obey all traffic laws, KDOT regulations, and SEK-CAP vehicle usage policies at all times.

  • Complete pre- and post-trip inspections using the required checklist.

  • Maintain a clean vehicle interior and exterior.

  • Keep emergency equipment (including first aid kit and fire extinguisher) on the vehicle at all times; check fire extinguishers monthly and document status.

  • Immediately report any vehicle malfunctions or safety concerns to the Vehicle Maintenance Manager.


Documentation & Compliance


  • Accurately complete daily trip logs, mileage sheets, inspection forms, and other required records.

  • Submit all paperwork legibly, accurately, and in a timely manner.

  • Attend required training sessions and staff meetings.

  • Report any suspected abuse or neglect to the appropriate authority in accordance with agency policy.

Desired:


  • Previous commercial or passenger driving experience.

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities, seniors, or other vulnerable populations.


EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Required


  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of hire.

  • Successfully complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

  • Submit to and pass a criminal history background check.

  • Participate in and pass ongoing random drug screen testing as required by Kansas Department of Transportation.

  • Pass Department of Transportation physical exam and renew as required.

  • Maintain a driving record free of major violations.

  • Maintain a valid Class C driver’s license and meet agency insurance underwriting guidelines.


Preferred


  • Maintain a Commercial Class B license with passenger endorsement.

  • Regularly required to sit, use hands, and reach with arms.

  • Repeatedly enter and exit vehicles throughout the workday.

  • Must be able to assist passengers using mobility devices, including operating and maneuvering wheelchair ramps or lifts, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Exposure to outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.

  • Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.

  • Noise level typically ranges from quiet to moderate.

  • Safety protocols must be followed at all times.
