Job summary

Bayer AG in Kansas City invites you to join as a co-op engineer in a hands-on program within our Engineering and Maintenance teams. You will contribute to chemical process improvements, assist in project development, and support safety and environmental standards while learning from experienced engineers.

The role emphasizes real-world experience, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration across production and technical staff, with terms in Spring or Fall 2027.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be able to commute daily to Kansas City, MO.
  • Spring 2027 or Fall 2027 term availability.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers to improve chemical processes and reduce cycle times.
  • Help shape project objectives by analyzing stakeholder requirements.
  • Ensure projects align with engineering standards and safety/environmental regulations.
  • Work with facilities and reliability engineers on maintenance and procurement programs.
  • Perform and verify engineering calculations using standard methods.
  • Conduct cost, feasibility, and planning studies for projects.
  • Assist production staff with process troubleshooting.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and Operational Excellence initiatives.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate and Learn: Partner with our talented engineers and staff to enhance chemical processes, improve yields, reduce waste, and cut down cycle times;
  • Project Development: Help shape project objectives and scope by analyzing stakeholder requirements and basic design packages;
  • Standards Compliance: Ensure all projects and activities align with engineering standards, Safety and Environmental regulations, and plant operating protocols;
  • Manufacturing Insights: Work with facilities and reliability engineers to understand maintenance, procurement, and reliability programs in chemical plants;
  • Engineering Calculations: Perform and verify engineering calculations using standard methods and principles;
  • Feasibility Studies: Conduct engineering cost, feasibility, and planning studies, providing recommendations based on stakeholder needs and data analysis;
  • Daily Collaboration: Team up with production and technical staff for process troubleshooting and problem-solving;
  • Operational Excellence: Contribute to the implementation of our Operational Excellence program and support site‑wide Process Improvement/Lean Manufacturing initiatives;
WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

  • Education: Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering;
  • Academic Achievement: Successfully completed your sophomore year or higher with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0;
  • Tech‑Savvy: Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Location: Able to commute daily to our site in Kansas City, MO;
  • Timing: Spring (January 11 – June 11, 2027) or Fall (May 17 – December 10, 2027);
  • Physical Ability: Willing and able to climb stairs and ladders;
  • Environment: Ready to work in a dynamic chemical plant setting.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately between $24.00 to $45.50. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits may include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc (if relevant). This salary (or salary range) is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
