Job summary

Bayer CropScience invites applications for a KC Engineering Co-op located in Kansas City, MO. This hands-on opportunity partners with Engineering and Maintenance to improve processes, yields, and efficiency within a chemical plant environment.

You will work with production and technical staff, perform engineering calculations, and contribute to Lean Manufacturing initiatives while pursuing a relevant degree.

Qualifications

  • Education: enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • GPA: minimum 3.0 overall.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers to enhance chemical processes and improve yields.
  • Assist in shaping project objectives and basic design packages.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Support maintenance, procurement, and reliability programs with facilities/maintenance teams.
  • Perform and verify engineering calculations using standard methods.
  • Assist in cost, feasibility, and planning studies with data analysis.

Education

Bachelor's/Master's degree program in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
GPA 3.0 or higher

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate and Learn: Partner with our talented engineers and staff to enhance chemical processes, improve yields, reduce waste, and cut down cycle times;
  • Project Development: Help shape project objectives and scope by analyzing stakeholder requirements and basic design packages;
  • Standards Compliance: Ensure all projects and activities align with engineering standards, Safety and Environmental regulations, and plant operating protocols;
  • Manufacturing Insights: Work with facilities and reliability engineers to understand maintenance, procurement, and reliability programs in chemical plants;
  • Engineering Calculations: Perform and verify engineering calculations using standard methods and principles;
  • Feasibility Studies: Conduct engineering cost, feasibility, and planning studies, providing recommendations based on stakeholder needs and data analysis;
  • Daily Collaboration: Team up with production and technical staff for process troubleshooting and problem‑solving;
  • Operational Excellence: Contribute to the implementation of our Operational Excellence program and support site‑wide Process Improvement/Lean Manufacturing initiatives;
WHO YOU ARE
  • Education: Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering;
  • Academic Achievement: Successfully completed your sophomore year or higher with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0;
  • Tech‑Savvy: Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Location: Able to commute daily to our site in Kansas City, MO;
  • Timing: Spring (January 11 – June 11, 2027) or Fall (May 17 – December 10, 2027);
  • Physical Ability: Willing and able to climb stairs and ladders;
  • Environment: Ready to work in a dynamic chemical plant setting;

Employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately between $24.00 to $45.50. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits may include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc (if relevant). This salary (or salary range) is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
