Job summary

South Carolina Department of Public Safety is seeking an experienced K-9 Handler via lateral transfer for the Low-State Region counties. The role includes patrolling highways, enforcing SC motor vehicle and other laws, and conducting complex investigations.

You will train and care for a patrol canine, maintain equipment, and assist agencies with canine detection and tracking. Residency and certification requirements apply, with information provided during the ACE interview process.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Experience in patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency preferred.

Responsibilities

• Patrol highways to detect violations and enforce state laws.
• Conduct vehicle and pedestrian stops and investigations as needed.
• Prepare detailed reports of incidents, pursuits, and investigations.
• Direct Canine handling and training for detection of controlled substances and tracking.
• Maintain department equipment and ensure accountability for funds and property.
• Assist other agencies with canine detection and field operations.
• Participate in mandatory training and maintain required certifications.
• Oversee disciplinary and performance records and participate in interview processes for lateral transfers.
