A leading educational institution in Massachusetts seeks a dedicated Reading Specialist for Grades K–8. The role focuses on addressing reading deficiencies and supporting at-risk learners through evidence-based practices. Position: Reading Specialist (Grades K–8)
Reports to: Assistant Directors (K–8)

The reading specialist will work primarily with students in Grades K–6, with the potential to support through Grade 8, to address reading deficiencies and help students achieve grade-level proficiency.
This role requires a data-driven, collaborative educator who is committed to direct instruction and evidence-based practices to support at-risk learners. The Reading Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring that all students receive the support they need to succeed in a rigorous academic environment.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary point of contact for parents of students enrolled in reading or language intervention services
Collaborate with classroom teachers and fellow Reading Specialists to ensure instructional consistency and alignment with the approved curriculum
Adhere strictly to school-approved programs and refrain from introducing curriculum not aligned with Direct Instruction or Core Knowledge
Provide targeted instruction to at-risk students throughout the school day as assigned in the teacher schedule
Adapt support to accommodate newly identified students throughout the school year
Prepare and distribute quarterly progress reports to families alongside student report cards
Attend and actively participate in parent-teacher conferences
Carry out additional duties that support school operations as assigned by the Assistant Director
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor's degree in education or a related field, with a reading specialization required; advanced degree preferred
A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role is preferred
Strong knowledge of reading intervention strategies and language acquisition
Clear, concise oral and written communication skills
Proficiency in evaluating student performance and producing data-driven reports
Ability to define problems, analyze data, and make well-reasoned instructional decisions
Capacity to build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the broader school community
Familiarity with applicable laws, regulations, and school policies related to student instruction and support services
Demonstrated skill in organization, collaboration, coaching, and leadership in a team environment
Knowledge of applicable content-area laws, procedures, and best practices
Ability to plan and implement instruction tailored to students’ needs and school objectives
Evaluation: This position is an annual appointment and will be evaluated yearly based on performance and impact.
